The Season of Lent
As the season of Lent begins we are invited to "the observance of a Holy Lent, by self examination and repentance by prayers, fasting and self denial and by reading and meditating on God's Holy Word." (BCP, 265) Our prayer lives are enriched and our spiritual journey deepened when we observe this holy season together.
The staff and clergy at St. Paul's are offering faithful, creative ways for you to travel on the path to Holy Week. On Thursday nights beginning at 7PM, following a light supper, we will offer a candlelight service and reading of the Psalms as a spiritual practice. Sunday mornings at 9:15, we will explore "Practicing Courage with all your heart, soul, strength and mind," considering spiritual, emotional and physical well being. Tuesday morning Bible study at 10:30 will be "visio divina," (sacred seeing) looking at paintings to expand our understanding of God's revelation in the world. Public Theology on March 9 at 7PM at the Little Pub in a casual, lighthearted gathering, encourages us to consider the serious, and sometimes misunderstood, concept of atonement.
Let your heart and mind soar nearer to the Divine on Sunday March 15 at 3PM as three choirs (St. Paul's, St. Catherine's and First Congregational Church) and an orchestra perform the inspiring Mozart choral piece Vespera Solennes de confessore.
We look forward to sharing this journey to Holy Week with you.
