Dear People of St. Paul's,
As countless generations have done before us, this week we travel the journey from the Last Supper, to the cross, the time of waiting to the pronouncement of the Risen Christ. For many, this entire last year has felt like the Season of Lent, filled with grief and loss. Unfortunately, our sense of loss may be deepened again as hope of returning to in person in the sanctuary Easter worship has been dashed again with today's release of COVID numbers, indicating rising cases in Greenwich. As we have done throughout the pandemic, based on the bishop's pastoral directive and our shared leadership's decisions, the sanctuary will continue to be closed for worship.
However, this does not mean that we will not worship during these sacred days. On Good Friday, the sanctuary will be open for individual prayer from 9am until 12 noon. Please find a few minutes to come by to sit in the church to offer your words of thanksgiving and lament to God. Self directed stations of the cross in the Meadow will be offered from noon until 3PM. A traditional Good Friday service will be held in the courtyard at 7PM with the sound of the organ and beautiful music soaring from inside the sanctuary to those of us gathered in the courtyard.
The ancient and powerful Easter vigil on Saturday night will be live streamed as the first light of Easter will be kindled in our hearts with words of praise and rejoicing in the Risen Lord. Our Easter Sunday service at 9AM will also be live streamed with the music of the organ reminding us of the Easter's past and a view forward of the future. We return to our most recent place of worship, the Meadow, for the 11AM Easter service. (Reservations and chairs required.) More details below on all these services.
Things are again different this Holy Week and Easter, more different than we could have ever imagined. We, too, are different than we were a year ago..perhaps more resilient, more faithful, more fragile or even more hopeful. Sometimes, we may feel we are all these things at the same time. Yet I can assure you that wherever you may be spiritually, physically and emotionally, the God of Love will manifest Himself in unexpected ways to carry you through to the next place in your life.
In the Hope of Jesus,
